The more I understand the complex ​issues that lead to housing insecurity, the more I use my resources to help. With every successful ​closing, the LaVista Hills Team donates to help people and pets in need of shelter or food ​assistance. I love that Bolst also creates opportunities for hands-on volunteering in this arena. My ​husband and I have two amazing daughters who are venturing into adulthood, while our dog ​Matzoh Ball tries to run the home.

Home is where the pets are!

We know how important it is for people to have a home, a safe haven for themselves and their families, including their fur kids.


Sometimes, people find themselves facing homelessness or are forced to live in housing or shelters that won't accept pets. The result is that pets may have to be surrendered permanently. And sometimes the animal shelters don’t have capacity to keep them until the owner’s situation changes.


Paws Between Homes serves as a safety net for Atlanta-area pets until their humans can return to stable housing.


How we help:

For each home we close, our team donates to Paws Between Homes. Our contributions cover the cost of fostering a pet, including vet care, supplies and food.

Everyone vs. Homelessness!

The Gateway Center is a proven leader in Metro Atlanta, able to adapt and respond to the needs of the homeless community. Their programs address the underlying barriers that prevent individuals and families from transitioning out of homelessness, such as unemployment, behavioral health, housing affordability, and/or medical conditions.


The Gateway Center has identified Five Keys to Success:

  • Housing Placement and Stability
  • Health and Wellness
  • Family and Community Engagement
  • Job Skills Training and Placement
  • Adult & Financial Literacy


How we help:

For each home that we close, our team donates to Gateway Center. Every $50 provides housing and case management services for 1 night.

Welcoming refugees to their new homes

This all-volunteer organization works in partnership with resettlement agencies to welcome Afghan refugees and families to our community, orient them to life in the U.S., and support them in establishing self-sufficiency.


Volunteers assist refugees in navigating their new lives, understanding our educational and medical systems, job market and customs. The organization also provides furniture, household items, clothing, school supplies, appliances, and other essentials to hundreds of newcomers, and set up dozens of apartments.


In addition to giving our time, we donate items on newcomer wish lists (rugs, diapers, linens, housewares). We also supply Welcome Kits to new arrivals (through Bolst). We love that our clients also help by giving unwanted furnishings and housewares in good condition to the organization.
